1.30 pm - Who are we and where do we come from? Family history and roots. Chair: Professor Sara Selwood, National Portrait Gallery Trustee. Speakers include Dave Annals (National Archives/Family Records Centre) and Cecile Wright (BBC’s ‘Who Am I?’)
3.30 pm - Culture and Class: which is more important? Chair: Professor Laurie Taylor (BBC). Speakers include artist Grayson Perry.
Monday 21 May, 6.30 pm: Tate Britain with the Institute of Ideas.
Is the 200th anniversary of the abolition of the slave trade a cause for celebration or should we reflect on the evil of slavery? Chair: Tiffany Jenkins. Speakers include Mike Phillips (curator, Tate) and David Miles (English Heritage).
