Culture24 will work with the MGM team to develop a UK-wide promotion with brand and PR support, subject to funding available, to ensure that UK museums can build on the achievements of previous years.
There is already a range of useful case studies on the MGM website for those launching into Museums at Night for the first time. Do take a look at what others have done before making your own plans.
Background
These changes are the result of a Review of the future of Museums and Galleries Month undertaken by Morris Hargreaves McIntyre on behalf of MLA and the Campaign for Museums. The report highlights the impact and success of Museums and Galleries Month, which has taken place in May each year since 2000 but suggests that new ways to celebrate museums and galleries should now be explored. The MGM Review is available here
The Campaign for Museums was set up in 1998 by Loyd Grossman, who is still the Chairman, to deliver the annual Museums Week and later, from 2000, Museums and Galleries Month, as well as associated workshops, events and activities for the benefit of museums and galleries in the UK.
MLA has confirmed that it is not renewing The Campaign for Museums’ funding and The Campaign for Museums has therefore decided that it is for others to take forward the recommendations in the report.
The Campaign for Museums’ assets, the Museums and Galleries Month, Discover London Trails and Museums Week brands, the database, website and other resources will be transferred to Culture24 (formerly the 24 Hour Museum – set up in 2000 by the Campaign for Museums) with whom it shares similar objectives.
The Campaign for Museums’ office run by Ylva French, Executive Director, will continue to operate for the next few months. So please email or phone with any queries, ylva@ylvafrench.co.uk – tel 020 7233 6789. More information will follow from Culture24 who will take over the email bulletins.
